Representative Projects List

The following examples of our project work demonstrate the diversity of our projects. Since 1992, Walter Cudnohufsky Associates, Inc. has built a reputation for uncommon excellence in planning and design. We employ a rigorous design process of site assessment, program definition, conceptual design, schematic alternatives and design development regardless of the scale of the project or nature of the client.

Public and Institutional Design

Working with public and quasi-public clients invariably involves facilitating a public process with a broad range of interested parties, often with conflicting agendas.  WCA is known for our ability to generate wide participation, facilitate public meetings, bring innovative ideas to the table, negotiate reasonable compromises, while working with the character and identity of client and site. Often, working within the constraints of limited budgets and timelines adds complexity to these project.

Master Planning and Land Planning

Master planning, whether for a 1400-acre mountainside rehabilitation center or a ten-acre park, starts with clarifying the mission of the client, their organizational style and management priorities, as well as site-based issues such as circulation, accessibility, historic precedence and the larger connections – both physically and organizationally – beyond the site.  In every case, a thorough assessment of natural resources and protection priorities is essential.

Environmental Design and Land Preservation

Virtually all of WCA’s projects involve some level of environmental design and conservation, whether working to infiltrate water on site and establish a native plant palette, or limiting the building and construction envelope and placing a conservation restriction on the balance of the property.  Several conservation and land trust agencies have engaged our services, knowing our preference for low impact site design and best management practices.  The same is true for residential design.

Multi-Unit Residential Site Planning

Some of the most challenging work comes in the form of multi-unit housing.  Whether an affordable housing project initiated by a local housing authority, a Chapter 40B or market rate subdivision development, or a co-housing project, careful understanding of site conditions, traffic impact, utility demands, zoning regulations and budgetary constraints requires close collaboration with engineers, architects, municipal and state permitting agencies as well as excellent public outreach.
